Bertelsmann Deploys Icertis Platform for Future-Proof Contract Management Solution

Bertelsmann is an international media, services and education company with global operations and €17 billion in annual revenue. Recently, its Group IT began investigating how it could improve the management of its sourcing contracts. As a global company, Bertelsmann was searching for a Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) solution that provided a single source of truth for contracts from negotiation to signature to expiry.

IT wanted a best-of-breed contract management solution that could be up and running fast, rather than a CLM that came as part of a larger software suite. The group also wanted a solution that could scale across other groups in the company. An enterprise-wide CLM solution would allow all contracts to be managed on one instance, providing a single source of truth in the enterprise.


Following an extensive RFx process, the Icertis Contract Intelligence (ICI) platform emerged as the clear choice. The selection team was impressed by ICI’s ability to handle the entire contract lifecycle: templating, negotiation, contract authoring, approval, signature (including e-signing), storage and analysis.

Icertis has the ability to scale across the company on a single instance, making it the right solution for Bertelsmann’s enterprise CLM roadmap. Bertelsmann Group IT Sourcing was able to deploy ICI rapidly thanks to the solution’s cloud architecture and agile project approach. Today, Meyer says, users can find the contract templates they need and send them out for signature without having to worry whether they are updated with the latest language.

“If it’s in the system, you don’t need to call a lawyer for an NDA,” he says. “This is important for using expert resources like lawyers or tax experts efficiently.”

Meyer also appreciates that the system automatically collects contract metadata as the documents are created. What Meyer was not expecting was the wealth of contract management knowledge that would come with deploying ICI.
